By personally traveling to the orphanage and overseeing all transactions we have 100% accountability for all the funds. The goals for 2006 trip included the following:

1. provide shoes and basic clothing for the children
2. purchase a washing machine for the orphanage
3. supply the orphanage with the medical supplies.

Upon arrival to the orphanage, the children were divided into 2 groups: (ages 3-8) and (ages 9-16). On day one we took the little ones shopping. Each child tried two pairs of shoes while the rest awaited their turn. At the end of the day we purchased 30 pairs of shoes, including boots for snow and shoes for everyday use, socks, underwear and tights (for the cold winter months). The next day we repeated the same procedure with the older children. Here the task was more challenging since we had to visit a few locations until we found the right style and fit for everyone. Some chose their own shoes and towards the end of our shopping spree, we loaded multiple boxes of items into the mini bus. The children, by the way were absolutely thrilled. Exhausted but happy, we had accomplished our first goal.

In two days we purchased 30 pairs of shoes for the younger group and 45 pairs for the older children.

Our other goals included a purchase of a brand new washing machine. Along with the help of Tatiana, a child psychologist at the orphanage, we spent a day shopping for a washing machine. We finally selected an excellent model along with a DVD player for the kids' room at orphanage.

Our last stop was the pharmacy where we purchased medical supplies (disposable gloves, antibiotics and anti-lice shampoo). Some of the children at the orphanage come from the street and must be isolated because of illnesses or infection. There is a registered nurse on staff and all medical supplies were purchased following her instructions.

Our trip was made possible thanks to the kind help of our donors. Thanks to your contributions we were able to jump start the fund and to achieve our first year goals. We are grateful for your trust and for your ongoing support in this exciting project!
